And when he came, not as a man, not as an angel, but as a demon, and he was one of them, he gave them what they always wanted: a chance to take back their power and their magic. They took it away from him; and he gave them the power to bring it back. He was there with them when the demons made them turn on each other; and when the demon angels came back, he was with them. He was everywhere they went: in their houses, in their cars, in their dreams, in their nightmares; with them in the bathroom, at the gas station, in the supermarket, and wherever else they went. He was everywhere, and he was nowhere; and when they asked him, he couldn’t give them anything, because he wasn’t anything. And it wasn’t just a demon thing: it was a real angel, who was not a man at all, and didn’t come from the Heavens.
